'Converging and dissolving the University Library?'

Place: Auditorium of the Academy Building
Chair: Hans Geleijnse (Vice-President of LIBER)

Although the digital library is nowadays taken for granted, developments in digitisation continue to accelerate. Electronic journals have become standard, and publishers are digitising their complete back issues. Google has launched a scheme to enable publishers to scan and index their printed books. The end of the hybrid library might well be in sight within a few years. Where does this leave the university library? Will there be a need for library services beyond licence management? The answer may lie in bringing library services closer to the day-to-day needs of researchers and learners. We propose to explore these questions first on a general, conceptual level, and secondly, and more practically focussed, at the level of both research (e-science) and education (e-learning).
